Who are we?

The Hawk Booster Club is a group of parents, alumni, and friends who support Mount Rainier Lutheran High. Our mission is to promote the development and general welfare of MRLH, to promote involvement and interest in the school's activities, and to provide physical and financial support. There are no hard and fast rules about how to become a Booster. As a matter of fact, if you share this vision, you are already a Booster! Your level of involvement is up to you. Check out the "Join Today!" page on our website, and we'll get you plugged in.

What do we do?

The Hawk Booster Club serves the MRLH community in four major areas: hospitality, fund raising, service, and communication. There is always something going on at Mount Rainier Lutheran High!

Our Hospitality Committee provides light refreshments at fourteen different functions throughout the year with the new student BBQ being a casual dinner. We create a welcoming environment at Choir and Band Concerts, Sports Recognition Nights, Open Houses, Drama Performances, and the Forensics Exhibition. These evenings are perfect for those who want ot be involved, but not overwhelmed!

Auction Picture Fund Raising is another Booster activity. We have many fun and creative avenues to provide the school with the monies needed to provide a full and rich extra-curricular experience for our students. The Annual Auction is our biggest fund raiser each year in the fall. It is a team effort on a grand scale and a fantastic experience for all who pull it together. Our concession stand and ticket table at home games also provide opportunities to mix it up with other friends of MRLH while serving the school. Ads in sports programs, Hawk Club passes, and spirit merchandising round out our fund raising efforts. Auction Frost Speaking

Breaking the Soil

Every spring, the Hawk Booster Club considers proposals for a Spring Service Project. Our purpose for supporting a service project each year is to look beyond our own needs at MRLH and to serve the broader community. Anyone who has a passion for a cause is welcome to ask for our help. Proposals are due by the January Booster meeting. When a cause is selected, the Boosters provide support in managing the service project through communication and soliciting of volunteers.

Turning Dirt

Finally, the Boosters assist the school through communication. Not only are we working behind the scenes, but we also want to bring others on board! We believe that communication helps to build our community by keeping people informed and encouraging them to be a part.

Announcements

Updated May 30, 2008
    • Boosters meet every third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 P.M. There will not be a meeting in June or July. Our August meeting will be on August 26th, the 4th Tuesday, but subsequent meetings will be on the third Tuesday.
    • If you have not already done so, please fill out a volunteer survey found in the "Join Today" link and send it to Tracy Schlatter at schlatter@mindspring.com .
    • The garden is planed but there is still a lot more to be done. We are in need of people who can water and weed over the summer. If you can help, let Kurt Scearce know kscearce@mrlh.org.
    • Auction procurement is underway and we are looking for big ticket items like vacation rentals, sports tickets, rounds of golf, spa packages, etc.... Time to call in your "chits". If you have a business in mind that will donate items, Lynn Hallenberg can email you a form to fill out.
    • Ad space in the fall and winter Sports Programs is selling NOW!! Sounds soon, but it goes to print before school starts in the fall. If you want to post a message to your athlete, Laurie Brigge com can email you a form to fill out.
    • In anticipation of the coming year we are also stockpiling items for the concession stand. We are currently seeking Costco donations of: Canned pop, Kirkland nuts (individual packages), Kelloggs fruit snacks, candy bars, Gatorade, water bottles, Grandma's cookies, chips (50 count variety pack), and Air Heads. If you want to drop an item or two off at the school, Luke Syverson would be happy to take them off your hands. If you want to stock up over the summer or come across Costco coupons for any of these items, contact our concessions stand chiefs, John Lake and Kelly Hopkins. By the way, John and Kelly are still looking for a popcorn machine. They have found and then lost a few on Craigslist, because they don't have the funds to jump on it when it's available. If you want to help with the conquest of a popcorn machine, please contact John 318-1523 or Kelly 537-2605 directly.
    • One year ends and already the next begins. Boosters are looking ahead to the New Student BBQ on August 28, but the kitchenette is a little sparse and could use a few donated items to handle the crowd. We need two or three BBQ grill sets and several pairs of salad tongs. This BBQ is a big endeavor and our grill masters would love a few more volunteers to help set up, keep the buffet stocked, and clean up afterwards. Contact Bruce and Jolene Cassal, Greg and Debi Davis, or Paul Acuna if you're in.
    • The fall and winter sports seasons bring two fundraisers that benefit businesses and families. You have already heard that your business can buy ad space in the fall and winter Sports Programs, but did you know that we also "sell" season tickets to home games? Hawk Club passes for the 2008-2009 school year are on sale now. Contact Angela Wolf if you would like to know more about the Hawk Club.
    • Obviously, no one person can accomplish all the wants and wishes expressed in this newsletter. That's what makes the Booster Club so great! As each individual plays the part that fits the best, the club moves forward as a whole. Together we are building a dynamic school community one event at a time. Until then, I hope everyone has a fantastic summer break filled with every good thing.

Auction - November 15, 2008

Mount Rainier Lutheran High School (MRLH) is the new kid on the block that is raising eyebrows in Seattle-Tacoma communities. This is not your typical private school. Talk to a student from MRLH and you will find that there is hope for the generation to come.

Fanning the flame of hope takes finesse. It's a balance between effective push and pull. You can become an integral part of the team that takes up the rope in this tug-of-war for success to secure a victory for a group of future leaders.

Looking Back

Kids
Last year's auction netted over $35,000! Proceeds were used to purchase choir robes, sports uniforms, banners, art equipment and other material needed for fine arts and athletics programs at the school. We stand to give a cyber-ovation to every donor, great and small, student and parent volunteers and those who attended, bid upon and purchased items at auction. Additionally, we extend a heartfelt "thank you" to Frosty Westering, a giant of a leader, coach and mentor for gracing us with words to live by.
Instrumentalists in Action

Forward Momentum

In the sports arena, the struggle between winning and losing is clearly celebrated by all regardless of age, gender, or background. MRLH is proud to announce that Tony Ventrella will be our guest speaker at the 2008 Auction. He has been a media personality, sports analyst and announcer for 28 years. Tony Ventrella has been on the front lines of competitive professional sports and knows what it takes to win. This year's auction promises the same excitement at last year multiplied by the increase in participants.

Every auction needs a polished professional who can deliver speech at mach levels of speed. For a second year in a row, Mr. J. R. Wikane will offer his expertise in this area. Mr. Wikane will again donate his valuable services.

Showing Items
Here is the part where you can get in on the action. The MRLH Auction Committee is looking for donated items to auction off. Won't you consider donating some of the following?

  • Vacation Packages
  • Outdoor Sports Packages (golf, fishing, paintball, etc)
  • Sports Tickets (Mariners, Seahawks, Sonics?, Storm)
  • Gift Certificates
  • An adorable puppy
  • Motorized vehicles (quad, scooter, watercraft, segway, automobile)
Fund an Item Action
What are the benefits of donating? Besides the joy that comes with the spirit of giving...donated items are fully tax deductible up to the value of the item donated. Cash gifts will be matched by Thrivent Financial and are also tax deductible.
Do you have a business that could use a little extra advertising? Donations provide a wonderful opportunity to get the name of your business and the quality of your product out in the community. Finally, your donation will help raise money for promising students who have a desire to broaden their horizons, spiritually, academically, athletically and in the field of fine arts.

Underwriting

I Can't Hear You
Catering, programs, and decorations are just some of the expenses incurred during auction time. Would you, as an individual, or your business like to contribute in the form of underwriting? There are so many great supporters of MRLH and we are sure there is more support out there in the giving community. For information on what specific services are needed, please contact Steve Pelissier, Auction Committee Chairman, at (253) 435-5716.
Thank you in advance for taking time out of your day to consider what you can do. Thank you for having the courage to respond despite the economic forecast. You are the people who make great communities, that make great cities, which together create great states that make us a great nation. Thank you for doing what you can do!
