Athletic Director's Welcome

Welcome to Mount Rainier Lutheran High Athletics! MRLH is a member of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and is a member of the Sea-Tac League within District II. The high school participates in the 2B classification. The Sea-Tac League has 12 member schools and is one of the largest 2B leagues in the state. This league includes 10 private and 2 public schools. The Sea-Tac League is also consistently represented in WIAA State Championship events in all sports. While the MRLH atletic program is only three years old, Hawk athletes have already represented MRLH at the League, District, and State Championship level. MRLH athletes are also recognized throughtout the Leage for their sportmanship as the boys athletic program was awarded the Sea-Tac League Bob Christian Sportsmanship Trophy for the 2006-2007 school year.
girls cross-country
Hawk student atletes currently participate in 5 girls' sports (Cross-Country and Volleyball in the Fall, Basketball and Cheerleading in the Winter, and Track & Field in the Spring) and 5 boys' sports (Cross-Country and Soccer in the Fall, Basketball and Cheerleading in the Winter, and Track & Field in the Spring). As we continue to grow, our athletic offerings are evaluated to make sure that we are providing the best combination of potential student success and student interest. Two projected future sports include Baseball and Tennis. Opportunities also exist for MRLH students to participate in interscholastic competition at their local public school in sports in which MRLH currently does not offer.
The philosophy of the MRLH athletic program mirrors that of the overall school mission statement in that it is Christ-centered and student-focused. Through competition, sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-discipline, Hawk student athletes become better equipped to be servant leaders. As athletics are an intergral part of the educational experience here at MRLH, they truly help to "Share values, and shape lives".

GO HAWKS!

Boy's Basketball

Boys Basketball

The 2007-2008 boys' basketball season ended the season on a high not and accomplished something they weren't able to do in their inaugural season, win. The Hawks won two of their last four games, winning on the road at King's West and at home vs. Puget Sound Adventist. While ending the season with a 2-18 overall record, the varsity team looks forward to the future. The Hawks say goodbye to only two seniors this season: two time all Sea-Tac league standout, Josh R. and team captain Mike L. Both seniors have been with the program since its inception and will be missed.

Shooting Hoops

The junior varsity squad finished the season with the most success of any team sport so far in the young athletic program here at MRLH. Relying on the play of mainly two sophomores and 8 freshmen, the team capped off a 10-9 season by beating league rival, Evergreen Lutheran at home. With only two juniors in hte entire program, the Hawks look towards next year to continue building the program into a tradition of success.

Cross-Country

The Hawk harriers wrapped up the 2007 season in much the same fashion and success as the 2006 season as five runners represented MRLH at the State Championships in Pasco. This years' edition of Hawk cross-country featured 10 boys and 2 girls.

For the second year in a row, the boy's team took home third place honors at the Sea-Tac League championships behind strong finishes by sophomore Ryan H. (5th place) and freshmen Jake K. (6th place) and Andrew W. (12th place). Four Hawks earned all league honors this season. At the Tri-District Championships, Junior Vitaliy G. (6th place), Freshman Andrew W. (7th place), and Sophomore Ryan H. (9th place) all qualified individually to compete at the State Championships while leading the team to a third place team finish. At the State Championships, Vitaliy G. was the top MRLH finisher coming in 31st place with Andrew W. and Ryan H. also finishing in the top 45.

On the girl's side, Freshman Alexis F. and Brilynn S. had equally great seasons with Alexis becoming MRLH's first female cross-country league champion by finishing in 1st place at the Sea-Tac League Championships. Brilynn finished in 5th place as both were named to the Sea-Tac League 1st team all-league. At Districts, Alexis F. finished in 2nd place and Brilynn S. came in 5th to both qualify for the State Championships. Alexis F. finished the race in 14th place, just missing the podium. She was also the top freshman finisher in the 2B race.
Tri-District Awards

With 9 of the 12 runners the season being freshman and no seniors on this years team, the Hawks again look towards next year to continue the success of the last two seasons.

Girl's Basketball

WE ARE ... LADY HAWKS

We WERE REDEEMED ... We WILL COMPETE.

Driving for the basket
The anchor verse for the 2007-2008 Lady Hawk Basketball squad was "...for we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us...." This verse, taken from the book of Romans reminds us that WE are only who we are through HIM -- our Lord and Savior, our Sustainer and Friend. WE as a squad can only strive, compete, and conquer through the strength HE provides.
Taking the Shot

The 2007-2008 Lady Hawks endere their season with a win-loss record of 1-19. The record doesn't reflect the many lessons learned and small victories won during the season for this predominately young squad. The girls came away with a healthy respect for the amount of work needed to be competitive with the teams in our league, and an action plan for the off-season.

Socer in Action

Colossians 3 has been selected for the theme for the 2008 Fall Boy's Soccer team at Mount Rainier Lutheran High School. As we enterthe third year of our program, the Hawks look to shake the mentality of a beginning program. We are no longer a first year team. We have worked too hard to continue with that label. We now possess three year letter earning players. The work done this summer will be what determines the outcome this fall.

The team excitely looks to the leadership of a now experienced junior class. The sophomores also will return in full force. There is still the possibility of space for new players and growth of the freshmen class.

Mandatory try-outs and practice start this year on Monday, August 25, 2008. The time and location will be announced by the beginning of August. All try-out participants must have a current sports physical on file with the school office. Please check back to this website for more information to come. Please contact Coach Kirchenberg with an quesitons about your training this summer or the beginning of the season at jkirchenberg@mrlh.org.

Now is the Time!

"and who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this."

Running
After a great 2007 season, the 2008 Hawk track team looks to continue building into a championship program. This years' team is the largest ever with 46 athletes, 20 more than last year. Of those 46, 34 are sophomores and freshmen. While that would normally be a building year, the freshmen class has already broken and/or set 8 of the 10 new school records in the first three meets of the season!

The girls team is lead by talented group of upperclassmen in 07 state qualifiers, Heather M. and Lacey L. Veteran senior, Rachel C. and newcomer Caitlin A. look to be standouts in the sprints and distance respectively. The girls will also look to freshmen Alexis F. (07 Sea-Tac league cross-country champion) and Brilynn S. (hurdles) to help with depth.

Triple Jump
On the boy's side, senior leaders: Mike L., Sean C. and Kenneth E., look to lead a young team of talented underclassmen. Junior Vitaliy G. (2 time state cross-country qualifier), and sophomores Ryan H. (distance) and Zach L. (throws) will add depth to strong freshman class that already own 4 school records.

In the first league meet of the season on March 20, the Hawks gave glimpse of what they hope to accomplish by winning both the boys and girls side of the meet over 4 league rivals. Some other key meets for the Hawk Tracksters include the April 12th Tacoma Invite, April 19th King's Invite, May 8th Sea-Tac League Championships, the District 1/2/3 Championships on May 14th and 16th and the WIAA State Championships in late May. You can keep track of all the Hawk results on the web at athletic.net, and also look for updates/upcoming meets here at mrlh.org.

Serve
The 2007 Volleyball season ended on a low note and a high note with two tough varsity losses against Northwest Yeshiva and Chief Leschi but with the JV squad tallying up the most number of match wins in one season for any volleyball squad in school history. The news is tough for our four seniors who helped build Hawk Volleyball from the ground up, but hopeful news for the underclassmen who, Lord willing, have more years together to build on their success. Senior Caitlin A. was honored by being selected for the Sea-Tac League Honorable Mention team. The entire squad was applauded by the league for their graciousness and received the Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row. Good job, girls, and see you in August 2008! Blocking
